Voter Help Desk
What if I'm homeless?

If you are homeless, meaning you do not have a permanent address, you can still register and vote in all 50 states.

It is recommended that when registering to vote, persons experiencing homelessness list a shelter address as their “voting residence address” so that they can receive mail. Homeless registrants may also designate a specific street corner, park, or other public place as their residence if they would like to do so.

Note that some states require registrants to have been a resident of that state or county for some duration of time in order to register to vote.

For more information on your state, see the table below. (Note that regardless of your state's individual residency rules, you must be a resident as defined above to register and vote in any state)

For more in depth information regarding voting and homelessness, you can visit The National Coalition for the Homeless.
